This course provides aquatic professionals with specialised training in understanding, supporting, and teaching neurodivergent swimmers, including those on the autism spectrum and with other cognitive, sensory, or learning differences. Participants explore key concepts such as neurodiversity, inclusive communication, sensory processing, behaviour support, and risk reduction strategies for wandering and drowning.
The program empowers swim instructors to create safe, structured, and flexible lessons that meet individual needs, promote engagement, and foster confidence in the water. Developed to amplify your team’s skills, the training combines evidence-based techniques with real-world teaching applications to ensure every swimmer has the opportunity to thrive.
To ensure a successful and effective learning experience, please review the following recommendations before submitting an application for enrolment in the Neurodiversity in Swimming professional development.
- Age: While there is no minimum age to enrol in and complete this professional development, aquatic industry guidelines recommend staff be at least 16 years of age.
- Experience: You do not need to be a qualified swim teacher to complete this professional development. However, we recommend that participants have some swim teaching experience, as this will help them relate the content to real swimming lesson environments and better apply the strategies discussed.
