The specific requirements required for successful completion of the Pool Lifeguard Package include:
- Swimming 200m in under 6 minutes (any recognisable stroke)
- Complete a 50m timed tow in under 1 minute and 45 seconds, consisting of a 25m swim (using any recognisable stroke) and a 25m tow of a conscious casualty.
The Ampd Academy Pool Lifeguard Course consists of skills designed to supervise the safety of patrons in aquatic venues and manage water-based rescues, casualties, and emergencies
Units of Competency:
Up until 08/12/2023:
- HLTAID009 Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation‚
- SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues‚
- SISCAQU006 Supervise Clients in an Aquatic Facility or Environment,
- SISCAQU007 Perform Advanced Water Rescues,
- PUAEME001 Provide Emergency Care,
- PUAEME003 Administer Oxygen in an Emergency Situation
From 10/12/2023:
- SISCAQU019 – Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations
- SISCAQU020 – Perform water rescues
- SISCAQU021 – Perform complex water rescues
- SISCAQU022 – Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment
- HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Pre-requisite: A current First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate.
Minimum age: 16 years.
English proficiency: A reasonable level of English is necessary to successfully complete this course.
Eligibility: Candidates must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or hold an appropriate visa allowing them to undertake education.
Please note: Ampd Academy is not a CRICOS provider and cannot enroll students on an international student visa.
Training packages are periodically updated to align with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Sport, Aquatics, and Recreation training package is delivered by multiple Registered Training Organizations (RTOs), including Ampd Academy.
The units of competency for the following courses have been superseded:

We want to ensure that you have the best learning experience and ample opportunities to complete your course successfully. To achieve this, all students who were enrolled and attended the Ampd Academy Pool Lifeguard courses before 01/12/2023 must successfully complete and submit all course requirements by 08/12/2023.
After the specified dates, Statements of Attainment for the superseded units of competency will no longer be issued, and previous work will not be retained.
Please note that this change does not affect those enrolled in courses after 08/12/2023.
