The specific requirements required for successful completion of the Pool Lifeguard skillset include:
- complete a ten (10) metre swim and then complete one non-contact tow, towing the rescued person for at least ten meters
- complete a ten (10) metre swim and then complete one contact tow, towing the rescued person for at least ten metres
- complete a 25 metre swim and then retrieve a submerged object replicating a person from the greatest depth of the facility but at no greater than two metres, at the surface contact tow an unconscious casualty for at least 25 metres, and work in a team to safely and efficiently extract the person from the water
- complete a 25 metre swim and 25 metre non-contact tow of a conscious casualty, with an assisted landing and work in a team to safely and efficiently extract the person from the water
- demonstrate fitness, strength, efficiency and speed throughout the rescue

Course Content
Units of Competency:
- SISCAQU019 – Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations
- SISCAQU020 – Perform water rescues
- SISCAQU021 – Perform complex water rescues
- SISCAQU022 – Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment
- HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Prerequisites
To ensure a successful and effective learning experience, please review the following pre-requisites before submitting an application for enrolment in the Pool Lifeguard course. These requirements apply to all students, regardless of funding:
- Hold a current and valid HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate or statement of attainment
- Current Pool Lifeguard Certification (for updates only): Participants must provide a current and valid Pool Lifeguard certificate or statement of attainment to enrol in the update course
- Age: While there is no minimum age to enrol in and complete this course, aquatic industry guidelines recommend staff be at least 16 years of age.
- Eligibility: Candidates must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or hold an appropriate visa allowing them to undertake education. Please note: Ampd Academy is not a CRICOS provider and cannot enroll students on an international student visa.
- Technology & Preparation: You’ll need a smart device or computer with internet access to complete online and pre-course activities — including a quick quiz to help us confirm your enrolment and check if any support is needed before training begins.
- Physical Fitness: Participants must have a reasonable level of physical fitness and swimming proficiency. This is essential for safely and effectively performing the necessary aquatic skills
