This course ensures you remain current with industry standards, teaching techniques, and safety practices so you can continue delivering high-quality swimming and water safety programs to all learners.
Course Length: 8 hours

Units of Competency
This course refreshes your key swim teaching skills and knowledge across the nationally recognised units:

- SISCAQU023 – Plan swimming lessons
- SISCAQU024 – Teach water familiarisation, buoyancy, and mobility skills
- SISCAQU025 – Teach water safety and survival skills

Your renewal includes a short industry placement to confirm you’re still confident and capable in the pool.
- Already teaching? Complete your placement at your current swim school.
- Record your hours and have your supervisor sign off once all skills are demonstrated.
- Not currently working? We’ll help arrange placement with one of our partnered swim schools.
- A minimum of 4.5 hours of industry placement is required; however, you must continue your placement until all required skills have been demonstrated by you and observed by your workplace supervisor.
- You must have a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) (or state equivalent) before you can start your placement. We recommend applying early and having your clearance ready to go!
To ensure a successful and effective learning experience, please review the following pre-requisites before submitting an application for enrolment in the Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSWS) course. These requirements apply to all students, regardless of funding:
- Age: While there is no minimum age to enrol in and complete this course, aquatic industry guidelines recommend staff be at least 16 years of age.
- Eligibility: Candidates must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or hold an appropriate visa allowing them to undertake education. Please note: Ampd Academy is not a CRICOS provider and cannot enroll students on an international student visa.
- Placement: This course includes a placement component, you must obtain a current Working with Children Check (Bluecard/WCCC). While this is not required at the time of enrolment, it must be obtained before commencing any industry placement.
- Technology & Preparation: You’ll need a smart device or computer with internet access to complete online and pre-course activities — including a quick quiz to help us confirm your enrolment and check if any support is needed before training begins.
- Physical Fitness: Participants must have a reasonable level of physical fitness and swimming proficiency. This is essential for safely and effectively performing the necessary aquatic skills
