QUEENSLAND FUNDING

Funding is provided by the Queensland Department of Trade, Employment and Training.

Funding Eligibility & Options

Training shouldn’t just be for those who can afford it upfront — and thanks to Queensland Government subsidies, it doesn’t have to be. We’re proud to be an approved Skills Assure Supplier with the Queensland Government.

That means we can deliver nationally recognised training with government subsidies for eligible students under:

  • Career Start Program
  • Career Boost Program

These programs are designed to help you start, grow, or completely change your career, with the skills to match

Career Start

What is Career Start?

Career Start is one of the Queensland Government’s core-funded vocational education and training (VET) programs, managed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).

It’s designed to support people at the beginning of their career journey by subsidising training at the Certificate III level. The program is aligned with industry needs and helps individuals gain the practical skills and recognised qualifications to step into the workforce with confidence.

Career Start offers two main pathways:

  • General training pathway — direct enrolment into a Certificate III qualification
  • Employment-based pathway — subsidised apprenticeships and traineeships at Certificate III level

It can also support access to:

  • Lower-level qualifications (such as pre-apprenticeships)
  • Training for targeted groups, including Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) projects

What's Included?

Under Career Start, an eligible individual may access:

  • up to two subsidised training places through one of the following options:
    • a general qualification at Certificate III and an apprenticeship/traineeship (note: if the apprenticeship/traineeship is completed first, the individual is no longer eligible to access a general qualification under Career Start); OR
    • two apprenticeships/traineeships at either Certificate II or III level, including school-based traineeships

Important:

  • A maximum of two apprenticeships/traineeships applies across all Queensland Government programs
  • You cannot complete two general pathway qualifications under Career Start
Eligibility

General Training Pathway Eligibility

  • be aged 15 years or older;
  • not be a school student;
  • permanently reside in Queensland;
  • be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
  • Not already hold a Certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (Qualifications completed while at school and foundation skills qualifications do not count)
  • Not be enrolled in another qualification (including on hold or deferred), whether DTET-funded or not (Foundation skills qualifications do not count)

Employment Based Pathway Eligibility

Employment based pathways require the individual to be employed as an apprentice/ trainee.

School students can only access apprenticeships and traineeships through a registered SAT. This is to ensure a school student does not use their entire apprenticeship/traineeship entitlement while at school.

To be eligible to receive government subsidised training, the apprentice or trainee must:

  • have entered into a Contract (training contract) for a qualification that is funded by DTET and be registered on the DTET’s training database;
  • if from overseas, have a visa allowing them to work in Australia; and
  • not have already completed two apprenticeship/traineeship qualifications (including SATs) within the last 10 years

Co-Contribution Fees

Our funded courses require a student co-contribution fee. The amount depends on the course, delivery mode, and whether you’re eligible for a concessional rate. In some cases, employers or third parties may cover this contribution, but training providers cannot waive it.

To view current fees, please see the relevant price list:

Concessional student status applies when the student falls into one of the following categories:

  • Holds an official form issued under Commonwealth law confirming that they, their partner, or the person of whom they are a dependant is entitled to concessions under a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card;

Career Boost

What is Career Boost?

Career Boost is a Queensland Government co-funded vocational education and training (VET) program, managed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).

It’s designed to help you grow your career, sharpen your skills, and open new opportunities. Whether you want to step into a higher-level role, specialise in a new area, or prepare for university-level study, Career Boost helps make it possible.

The program focuses on building the advanced skills employers are actively looking for, supporting both:

  • General training pathways — study a Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or priority skill set

  • Employment-based pathways — complete a subsidised apprenticeship or traineeship while you work

Career Boost gives you the practical skills and recognised training to move forward with confidence in your career.
